The NCHS PFA, in partnership with New Canaan CARES, invites you to attend "Thriving in Transition: Mental Wellness from High School to College" at 7:00 PM on March 11 in the NCHS Auditorium.
Appropriate for families of all high school students, and students are welcome to attend! Dr. James Geisler, Executive Director of Wellness Services at Sacred Heart University, will lead a discussion on how families can proactively support their students' mental health during high school and the transition to college including:
- Identifying key factors contributing to rising college student stress
- Better understanding mental health challenges and limited campus resources
- Learning a practical framework to help manage these challenges
- Gaining tools to build coping skills before difficulties arise
Dr. Geislers's work emphasises proactive development of healthy coping strategies rather than waiting until a crisis occurs. His workbook, Thrive Year One, will be available for purchase at the event. No registration is necessary!

Safe Driving Week (All Grades)
4/21/2022 11:34 am
April 20-24
With a special focus on keeping our teen drivers safe, the PFA and the New Canaan Police Department have arranged a week full of impactful, interactive activities to focus on safe driving:
Daily: Announcements and inspirational giveaways during lunch periods
Tuesday, April 21: "Sharing the Road with Trucks" program representative from Virginia Tech Transportation Institute will bring a semi-truck and demonstrate safe driving alongside a large commercial vehicle.
Wednesday, April 22: NCPD officers will conduct mock field sobriety tests in the main lobby during the lunch block.
Thursday, April 23: Presentation with Steve Emt, Safe Driving advocate from Choices Matter (1-2:30 PM).
Friday, April 24: Mock car accident in front circle near the flagpole starting at 11:00 AM. The incident will include four role players from the drama department and will be recorded by students from NCTV. The driver will be arrested for DWI by NCPD; the front-seat passenger will be extricated by NCFD and placed in an ambulance on a stretcher to simulate a realistic accident scene by NC EMS.
Parents can be the biggest influencers on teens’ choices behind the wheel, so please encourage your teenagers to attend and discuss with them the risks they face as new drivers.
Thank you to our community partners for their support and for helping us reinforce the importance of safe driving habits.
